Anger Management Skills and Training helps teens and adults address core issues that promote addiction recovery and prevent relapse. Addiction relates to the 'habit' of repetitive behaviors that include alcohol, drugs, food, internet, smoking, work, XXX porn, and others.
The nature of addictions is to help us zone out from feelings of anger, hurt, sadness, shame, low self-esteem, etc. Rather than working through, and dealing with these issues, addictions tend to numb us and our ability to live a more fully. As a result we tend to block out other people in our life, and in turn find ourselves in conflict with our partner, family, friends, or employer - without knowing exactly why. Life (along with our addiction to comfort us) has become a vicious cycle!
This program is designed to help people break the cycle.
Anger Management Skills and Training helps people identify their strengths, talents, and special qualities, and learn how addiction holds them back from achieving their potential. This often helps people find the courage to face their 'dragons' and start dealing with unexpressed anger, hurt, etc. In this way, the process of counseling becomes a positive experience that focuses on the joy of finding new levels of expression and freedom.
On the surface, this may seem like it will take forever, but as one recognizes the 12 Step wisdom of 'taking it one day at a time' the person gains a new appreciation of what life offers. In the process clients gain insight and their own personal wisdom to let go of their addiction prison.
Dr. Kaplan is a 'friend of Bill', and has attended meetings that have benefited his own personal recovery. He is fully aware of the potential 'healthy' 12 Step meetings can have on an individual's recovery. His philosophy is that supportive therapy and the 12 Step program have the combined advantage of leading to exponential growth on a person's path to recovery.
